How Brad Twiss’s Clients Bought a Former Zillow Home Below Asking (Marketplace)

In late 2021, Zillow shut down Zillow Offers, its program that bought homes directly from sellers, flipped, and resold them. The company had underestimated how fast prices would rise, then overpaid as the market cooled. It lost more than $400 million in one quarter and was left holding almost 18,000 homes. Marketplace looked at what Zillow’s exit meant for “iBuyers,” companies that make instant cash offers on homes.

The story followed a Portland couple, clients of Neighbors Realty owner Brad Twiss, who bought a Zillow-owned house listed at $560,000. With Zillow under pressure to sell, Brad helped them negotiate the price down to about $520,000, roughly $40,000 below asking.
